Western Reserve Model Yacht Club, Results, Saturday May 22.

Wyatt, Sieloff win WRMYC Saturday Series Races May 22, 2021 at SPIRE

The bi-weekly Saturday AM races of Western Reserve Model Yacht Club on May 22, at SPIRE Institute saw light and shifty winds from the West, meaning that as boats approached the western shore the wind became very light, and rounding the first Mark was difficult.

The key was to get a good start, get out from the other boats into clear air, and cross over the starboard-tack fleet boats on Port tack. Then one had to stay in clear air and keep the boat moving to carry you closer to the West (first ) mark even as the wind died close to shore. After rounding Mark 1, we went back out toward the middle of the lake and better wind. Boats out in the lead after Mark 1 were hard to catch once they hit the better air about 25 feet off the shore.

At the end of the 9-Heat program, Mike Wyatt won in the Gold Fleet, with Series leader David Steger in second. Third was Rick Lawler. In Silver, Ron Sieloff won 8 of the 9 Heats, but 2nd- place Bob Kalman bettered third place Dan Jarold by just 1 point- one place in one of the nine Heats!! The club’s next event will be this Tuesday, May 25 at 4 PM, followed by more Saturday races May 29 at 10 AM. All WRMYC racing is at SPIRE Institute, Rt. 534 just North of I-90, in Geneva.
