Saturday Series on 7/10/2021
Schuster, Sieloff win WRMYC Saturday Series Races July 10, 2021 at SPIRE
The weather was good – but the wind did not cooperate. Morning temperatures in the mid-60’s with partly cloudy skies greeted sailors from Western Reserve Model Yacht Club for the fifth Saturday Series program on July 10. By 11 AM, temperatures rose to the low 70’s, but the wind?? Never joined. The predicted “light and variable” winds were supposed to be about 4 MPH, but at best were 2 MPH and at times non-existent. (Officially- the wind WAS 0 with gusts of 0.) As a result, the club only sailed 5 Heats of the planned 9, and there was no discarded Heat allowed. Larry Lamphier served as Race Director, a difficult job when the wind is such that you can’t predict course directions.
In Gold Fleet, Bob Schuster won, with David Steger in second and Rick Lawler placed third. This was Schuster’s first daily win of the season, and he did it with two Heat wins, two seconds and a fifth- very consistent.
In Silver Fleet, Ron Sieloff again won with Bob Kalman in second, followed by Scott Westrum in third.
