Saturday Series Micro Magic on 7/31/2021
“Micro Magic” Racing Program The Micro Magic is one of two boats less than 30” in length sanctioned by the RC sailing National Organization (AMYA) (See the comparison of the two boats, below.) WRMYC has been “fun racing” the Micro Magic Class boats all season, but Saturday July 31 was the first “counted” race.
So- a total turnout of 6 Micro Magic skippers was a great start for the new Fleet. It was also the first Saturday of ANY Series of WRMYC sailing a boat other than the Soling 1 Meter over the 13 years the Club has existed.
The recent change in the Club’s program – racing the Micro Magics first at 10:30 AM in the morning- paid off as boats were still able to sail well even in the lightest of winds. Saturday’s Micro Magic racing program started with winds of less than 4 MPH from the North (also sometimes from the South!)
Commodore Rick Lawler won over Doug Rieger by only 3 points after discards in the abbreviated 8-Heat program. Jon Robert Hernandez, among WRMYCs youngest competitors at 18, sailed for the first time this season to score an impressive third place in Micro Magics.
