Saturday Series Soling on 7/31/2021

Winds light for Western Reserve July 31 at SPIRE

Saturday, July 31 was the first Race date of the 2021 WRMYC Fall Series. Winds were light, but present- just 4 or 5 MPH until about 2 in the afternoon, after the Club’s racing program. The Race Director made many course adjustments as the winds went from Southeast, stopping by North only briefly, then West by midway through the race program.

The Club had its traditional mid-season picnic following the regatta to hand out Spring Series awards. Soling 1 Meter Spring Series winners- top three: Soling 1 Meter- Gold Fleet: 1st: Rick Lawler 2nd. David Steger 3rd Doug Rieger

The Gold Fleet Spring Series was won in the last Heat, and at the last Mark of the final Heat, when Rick Lawler passed another competitor to win for the day. That daily win put Lawler tied for First in points; the tiebreaker (most first place finishes) moved him to a Series First over David Steger. It doesn’t get ANY closer!!

Soling 1 Meter Silver Fleet: 1st. Ron Sieloff 2nd. Bob Kalman 3rd. Scott Westrum

-------------------------------------------- Saturday July 31st race results: In Soling Gold Fleet, Rick Lawler bettered David Steger by 2 points for First Place on the day. In third was Bob Schuster, just 1.75 points behind Steger. In Silver, Ron Sieloff won three of the eight Heats, but scored all 2s or 3s among his counted Heats. In second was Dan Jarold having a good day with four wins- but the consistency of Sieloff was the difference. Bob Kalman placed third.
