Saturday Series Micro Magic on 5/14/2021

Western Reserve Model Yacht Club Saturday August 14, 2021 - at SPIRE:

Beautiful weather at SPIRE!! Saturday August 14 found partly cloudy skies and room-like temperatures in the low 70’s even after a night of torrential rain. The forecast was winds NNE at 8 MPH eventually increasing to 12-14 MPH.

The club has added a second Class of boats to its racing program- the small Micro Magic 21” boat is now in competition during the mornings on the 2nd and 4th Saturdays each month. The Micro Magic, being very light, is better for the lighter average winds that are normal before noon. The club’s traditional Soling 1 Meter competition was moved to start at noon on the same Saturdays.

For the August 14 Micro Magic program, the winds were light and variable in the 2- 4 MPH range, ad shifting over a large range of directions. RD Rick Lawler was challenged to find good courses, and often those chosen were dramatically different, as little as a few minutes after the start. Still the 5-boat fleet were able to finish all scheduled Heats before the time limit at 11:30 AM.

Mike Wyatt won the day, but by just a single point ahead of Bob Schuster over the nine Heats. Doug Rieger was third.
