Tuesday Evening Series on 8/31/2021
Western Reserve Model Yacht Club
Tuesday August 31, 2021 - at SPIRE: Steger, Kalman win
There are some days that WRMYC sails in conditions that are very uncomfortable- hot nights, threatening rain, and of course cold in April and again sometimes in October. Most days are average. But Tuesday, August 31 was one if those perfect days- temperature 75 degrees, sun, high wispy clouds, and decent winds from the NNE at 7- 10 MPH. All our planned 12 races were completed about 30 minutes earlier than our deadline. All 9 sailors in both Fleets started together, and sailed the same courses, so racers had to contend with crowded Mark rounding’s and Starting Lines.
In the Gold Fleet David Steger won 6 of 12; Rick Lawler placed second and Bob Valentine placed third.
In Silver, Bob Kalman won 9 of the 12 Heats; Dan Jarold was second. We had a guest- Cara Sanderson Bown- an experienced full scale sailor sailing RC boats for the first time and placing third in the Silver Fleet. Cara even won Heat 4, a great first-time result!! Let’s hope she comes back.
After Tuesday Race 18 of the scheduled 26 for the season, a third discard was applied. David Steger is still leading the Gold Fleet by a margin of 15 points over Rick Lawler. But Mike Wyatt is now in 3rd just 2 points behind Rick - Wyatt had been ahead by going into this evening before a 4th tonight. There are still 2 months of racing left, 8 more Tuesday events scheduled, and one more discard to be applied. In Silver, Bob Kalman has a big season lead of over 20 points; why? Bob missed only one Tuesday of the 18 so far this year and those points were discarded.
