Tuesday Evening Series on 9/14/2021
WRMYC Racing, Tuesday Series, September 14 Steger, Kalman win at WRMYC
When we arrived at SPIRE, the wind was so strong that it was hard to even carry the boats –in fact it was a measured 13 MPH, gusting to 21. As the evening went on, the wind went to a light 4- 5 MPH, and with frequent shifts, and spotty wind.
In the Gold Fleet, Larry Lamphier retired in the first Heat with boat control electronic issues, and was not able to resume racing. David Steger and Rick Lawler battled all evening, as each discarded two fourth place finishes. For the evening Steger had four wins and Lawler three, but Steger’s extra first place made the difference, and placed first.
In Silver, our two youth Members- Kaleb and Vince (we don’t use last names for our younger Members) returned after missing over a month of competition. In Heat 2, Kaleb was in the overall lead, ahead of Gold and Silver competitors for the first two Marks, but then had trouble with the light air, and was passed by more experienced skippers. At the end of the racing, it was again Bob Kalman winning for the night.
Next: the Club is doing a work session at the pond this Thursday Sept 16, getting ready for the upcoming Region 4 regattas. These are held NEXT week, starting Thursday September 23 through Sunday, September 26.
