Tuesday Evening Series on 10/5/2021
Wyatt, Kalman win at SPIRE
The Western Reserve Model Yacht Club’s first Tuesday Race of October brought cool, crisp weather, with temperatures in the low ‘70’s, and winds from the Northeast at about 6-8 MPH. The competition was close as the club enters the final month of 2021’s racing. WRMYC has just three more Tuesdays and two Saturdays before the scheduled end of the club’s season.
In Gold Fleet Mike Wyatt won for the evening, followed by Rick Lawler in second, and David Steger in Third, by a single point. Steger and Lawler each won two Heats, and Bob Schuster won one also- so every competitor in Gold this evening won a race. For the season, after 23 Tuesdays, Rick Lawler has 50 total points for the season; Mike Wyatt in Third closed by one point on Lawler and now trails 50 to 48 points in the low-point scoring.
In Silver Fleet, Bob Kalman again won for the evening, but Dan Jarold gave him some competition; after the first 6 Heats, Kalman led by only one point. As the wind began to calm for heats 7- 12, the sailors had to make adjustments to keep power in the sails, and perhaps Kalman hit the right combination as the wind moderated, since he won 4 of the last 6 Heats. For the Tuesday Series, Bob Kalman has the lead with 21 points; in second is Jim Hogan (61 points), and Third is Dan Jarold (66 points).
