Saturday Series Micro Magic on 10/9/2021
SPIRE: Rieger win
Saturday, October 9 was the first scheduled Saturday race event, in the last month of competition of the Western Reserve Model Yacht Club’s 2021 season. Friday had been a night of torrential rain. That combined with a dire forecast, meant there was concern over even more rain on Saturday. But when we arrived at SPIRE, it was looking much better and the club opened its Micro Magic morning racing with winds from the South at 6-8 MPH and mostly cloudy skies.
With Ron Sieloff serving as Race Director (RD) for the day, the Micro Magic races were up first at 10 AM. We had 6 sailors competing for the Micro Magic morning program, (the sixth had dropped out for technical reasons). Winds were light from the southwest.
Right away it was apparent that the competition level in the Micro Magic fleet was going to be just as intense as the Soling Fleet has been since the club’s founding. In Heats 1 – 5, four of the five different boats competing had finished in first place. As the day’s Micro Magic program went on, Doug Rieger began to score a series of First Places to take the win for the day, followed by Rick Lawler, then Bob Schuster.
