DF95 2023 National Championship Regatta on 12/3/2023
2023 DF95 National Championship Regatta (NCR)
By Russ Gardner
The 2023 DF95 NCR was held in Corpus Christi Bay and was a great success. The defending Champion was in fine form to be defending his title but had some very strong competition from across the country and several international challengers as well. The event started off with check-in, inspection, and practice. It was followed up with a get together hosted in the Corpus Christi Yacht Club. Friday started the racing off the Lawrence Street T-Head. Of particular note were the dolphins cruising by just east of the course inside the breakwater that afternoon. Peter Feldman was leading the regatta at the end of the day. Friday evening was left to the skippers to find their own entertainment. Saturday morning the wind had shifted and a new course was set by Mark Foster and boat crew. The racing was hotly contested all day and ended after the 21st race was completed with Feldman still leading. Sunday morning was chilly by South Texas standards in the mid-40s. But the wind was blowing enough that the course was set and racing commenced. During lunch the wind died down and the course was mirror-like. With forecast showing no change for the rest of the afternoon, the PRO called the regatta and Peter Feldman, after 26 races, had retained the championship. Congrats Peter! There was great fun, visiting, and racing all weekend that was fit for National Championship experience. There were many who volunteered and made this regatta a success. Many thanks for all the hard work.
