Alamo Classic RC Laser R5 Championships on 5/4/2024
Day started out with the hopes of being missed by all the predicted rain but did get a heavy mist, but did not stop us. Todd Carrico started the day showing everyone he was there to win. Taking bullets(1st) in the 4 of the first 5 races before lunch while everyone was pulling up points. It looked liked Todd was going to walk away with regatta till a he had to eat a few big #'s while Eric Gregory was catching up with good races and trying to break his tie with Ray Seta. Then Seta had to eat three bad races in a row towards the end of the series as Eric had his goal set for Todd. Maybe just one more race was needed for Eric to grab the top spot, but Todd prevailed by only 1 point after 16 races to become the Region 5 Champion!
As the usual WSC hosted regatta, no one goes home hungry! Starting with breakfast taco and Mexican sweet bread and then the days lunch feast of our famous BBQ catered meal. And we will never forget our traditional Mexican Paletas Ice Cream. I believe everyone got their fill of quality racing, food, camaraderie, and beautiful wall hanging trophies.
Special thanks to our PRO Russ Gardner, RD Sylvia Dimayuga and Dagne Fischer, Clubhouse dining room set up of Denise Delgado and Joshua Seta.
Thank you for all skippers that traveled in to support us. Great spectator crew up on the patio all day!!!!
Thank you Race Committee!!!
Personal note to all about Russ Gardner serving as PRO for this regatta. A perfect example of giving back to the hobby that has brought him so much joy! He doesn't own an RC Laser and is a member of Woodlawn Sailing Club. I feel the quality of all regattas can be brought up a notch by the act of a seasoned racer of maybe another Class puts his radio down and simply volunteer for the quality of the regatta to be closer to perfect. Your fellow skippers will appreciate this! Too many seasoned skippers have felt they are at a point that they feel it's not their job, but are the first to complain if an event he attends is not up to his par! Give back and support your Club! Thank you Russ!
